1. Background
The Greater Midrand Youth Council (GMYC) was re- established in 2012 after the collapse of youth forums. The main role of GMYC is to deliver and facilitate youth development initiatives In Midrand. GMYC is an umbrella body of youth formations in Midrand. As an umbrella body, GMYC make sure that its affiliates implements developmental programmes. The main role of the GMYC is to make sure that youth development happens in midrand
GMYC envisages an integrated ,holistic and sustainable youth development, conscious of the historical imbalances and current realities ,to build a non-sexist, non-racist , democratic South Africa which young people and their organization not only enjoy and contribute to their full potential in the social, economic and political sphere of life but also to recognize and develop their responsibilities to build a better life for all. The GMYC operates from Lord Khanyile youth center which serves as its headquarters.
2. Youth Development Center
Lord Khanyile Youth Development Center was built in 1999, courtesy of local government. It is the only youth facility serving young people from all areas in Midrand such as President Park, Blue Hills, Carlsworld, Randjiesfontein, Glen Austin, Khayalami, Vorna Valley, Ebony Park, Kaalfontein. Rabie Ridge, Halfway House, Mayibye, Klipfontein, Ivory Park, Noordwyk and Kanana. The facility is based at Lord Khanyile Community Precinct in Ivory Park. The facility is managed by Midrand Youth Council. The youth development center aims to continuously pay attention to:

To lobby and advocate for a unite force of young men and women in Midrand

To facilitate the initiation of youth development programmes and coordinates resource to deliver in development programs.

To monitor and evaluate all youth development initiatives under taken in Midrand area.

To serve as a source of up to date and well researched information about youth matters in Midrand.

To create learning and development opportunities for member organizations so that they can be in a position to engage in meaningful sustainable youth development

Skills development. This program is aimed at providing young people with skills that will help them gain access to economic opportunities

Moral regeneration. To ensure that young people are at the center of programs aimed at regenerating the moral fibre of society

8. Service Delivery Strategy
For the MYC to attain its goals, it has four (4) Business Units that deals with the implementation of the objectives.
The units are:

Learning and Development Unit. Assesses learning and development needs of all members-organizations

Advocacy and Lobbying Unit. Public relations. Establishment of partnerships with institutions/organizations involved in youth development

Resources, Development Programmes Unit. Mobilize and equitably distribute resources to member-organizations

Research, Information and Technology Unit. Engages in collecting information for monitoring and evaluation of youth development activities
