What is a youth council?
Youth councils are a form of youth voice engaged in community decision-making. Youth councils exist on local, state, provincial, regional, national, and international levels among governments, non-governmental organizations (NGO), schools, and other entities.
Local youth councils are forums that represent the views of young people at a local level. Run by young people for young people, they give young people a voice and enable them to make their views heard in the decision-making process. They give young people the chance to discuss relevant issues, engage with decision makers and contribute to improving the lives of young people within their communities.Youth councils identified their role within the local community as follows:

Who are we?
The Greater Midrand Youth Council (GMYC) is an umbrella organisation that supports youth clubs and organisations throughout Johannesburg Region. GMYC inspires and empowers today's young people to have a say and be heard, giving them the skills and opportunities to become the leaders of tomorrow. The main role of GMYC is to deliver and facilitate youth development initiatives In Midrand. As an umbrella body, GMYC ensures that its affiliate’s implements developmental programs. The main role of the GMYC is to ensure that youth development happens in Midrand.
GMYC envisages an integrated ,holistic and sustainable youth development, conscious of the historical imbalances and current realities ,to build a non-sexist, non-racist , democratic South Africa which young people and their organization not only enjoy and contribute to their full potential in the social, economic and political sphere of life but also to recognize and develop their responsibilities to build a better life for all. The GMYC operates from Lord Khanyile youth centre which serves as its headquarters. The centre serve as the operational facility for activities /programs/Projects of GMYC’s mission is to be the centre of Information that Unites, facilities and co-ordinates youth development in a reliable and professional manner through member-organisations. As the GMYC manager the facility it is Responsible to appoint personnel to administer the facility on daily basis.
We support young people to get involved in their communities and democracy, locally, Provencal and nationally, making a difference as volunteers, campaigners, decision-makers and leaders
How to become a member of a youth council?

You have to be between the ages of 13 and 35 years.

You must belong to a youth group or organisation

Your structure must be fill-in and submit a membership form of youth council.

Why must we take- part and support the youth council?
As a young person and philanthropist participating in the youth council you get to champion issues of the youth in the immediate community. Youth councils are there to lobby and advocate for the development changes:

When did the organisation start?
Greater Midrand youth Council (GMYC) was established in 2012 after the collapse Khayalami Youth council due to demarcations. GMYC is the umbrella body of Youth organizations In Midrand.
Where are the offices of organisation?
All youth council are based in a youth centre at their immediate community where they are from. Greater Midrand Youth Council is based in Lord Khanyile Youth Centre.
